Today in a team meeting we discussed how we all contribute to make a good caring team that makes us do the job we all so love.

We have recently been blogging about our roles and how a carer goes about their day! At Wright Care at Home we have monthly and sometimes fortnightly meetings, and today we thought as a care team we would contribute to a team Blog.

This supports all of us as a team, in our roles no day is the same and we face at times difficult conditions, dark hours and emotional times. But with those we also share mesmerising moments, moments of memories, life events and challenges that we overcome.

So here is what the team had to say when putting their team heads on….

As always there is a sense of humour, a laugh and cry to be had. As you can imagine when you mix a team of personalities together you never know what will come together.

Our Team Blog

It’s time to support our lovely customers with their showers. Some that just need reassurance and peace of mind and those that may need a little more help. This is brilliant as it not only means we can help them but it also means we are the cleanest individuals possible. For not only do we help with showering those difficult places to reach but we also end up more often than not showering ourselves too! If only at times we had more than a pair of hands!

When the weather is hot and we are facing the UK heatwave, granted this is never for long we are often thankful for the visits that mean we can support with this as we never have a dull day and are always in and out of homes, our cars and here there and everywhere to ensure everyone has their needs met. So not only do we shower before our day, during visits but often in our breaks too. Its definitely something a carer must be able to do. Adapting to all weather conditions!

So, as we all sit here chewing the fat about our roles, literally. Vicky has just completed one of our voluntary visits and she had Fish and Chips with a customer. Obviously, it would have been rude that she didn’t order herself a portion and eat hers with the customer. Our customers love their voluntary visits and we love them too as its rewarding making such a massive difference to a customer’s day. However, it’s all right for Vicky she’s a skinny Minnie. Whereas the rest of us just look at cake and we gain 10 lbs.

After a giggle about how we are all so versatile and often like the speed of lightening at times with our multi-tasking duties – no day is ever the same! But we love this about our jobs! What we all really have in common as ‘Wright Care at Home’ carers are that we all love the stories we learn of each day from our customers. Some of our customers have had rather splendid jobs! For instance, some are famous artists, costume designers and one was even married to a famous football player! We get to learn lots of life skills and if there is ever some advice needed it’s fair to say one of our customers will be keen to tell us the answer. The most recent was that when eating a ‘dippy egg’ turn it the other way up. It’s much easier to dip the soldiers then! Who doesn’t love a dippy egg, this is a favourite to most of the population surely.

Our famous artist always tells us to not stop on our feet for long else her face may end up in the National Gallery!

As carers people always wander why we are not the size of twigs however due to the nature of our jobs, we often eat at the wrong time and most often the wrong thing! Salad or Cake?  So as Kerrie the nominated person writing everyone’s thoughts down I’ll be amazed if I finish as I’ve just eaten what for once I felt was healthy a prawn salad. I’ve now been told as I finish eating it that the carers think it was out of date. Oh well as one of our original carers of the company just advised our newest recruit Amy… always expect the unexpected! Maybe today is that.

This we all collectively say is the best job ever, every day is different and every visit is different. It’s the most rewarding job and an honour to care for those who once cared for us.

Sammy the Care Manager and the Senior carer recently spent all day on the ‘High Street’ collecting for the Marie Curie Charity. Stood by the Stamford Buskers and as we posed for photos with Dick Turpin (Georgian lookie likes – Stamford Festival) we collected £157. That’s what we also love, not only are we delivering care but we also getting out in the local community and helping others. We get to talk to different people every day and our team love this. Even two of our customers joined in! What a great way to spend a working day.

However the above events are easy the latest is that our Dear Manager ‘Samantha’ has signed us all up to run 13.2 MILES! Easy she says! That’s 26.2 miles divided in half! A LONG WAY…. Oh, but it’s okay it’s in October so only two months to train! Probably we will be asking our customers to provide us care after. Ha however deep down we love this about the company! Always aspiring to keep us healthy too. Babs a local guest speaker came and talked about her survival from a Stroke and therefore we are running for her and everyone else to raise money for ‘The Stroke Association.’ Sammy has promised to be there at the end with Prosecco and Cake.

So, when we all sit here and think why we love working for Wright Care at Home, it’s easy we are all caring people and want to go above and beyond for others. We like variety, we like to learn and learning never stops here. In fact, we have just learnt that this coming week we have training! But that’s ok more cake and a visit from our awesome trainer Derek. Or ‘Werek Dagle’ as we call him. Training is what makes us different we never become complacent in our skills we are forever learning and looking to improve our roles to develop. We believe no one is perfect and work together to ensure our customers have the best care.

Anyway, my hand hurts now. All this writing! However, watch out as next month your get our second instalment…….
