‘Love me’ or ‘Hate me’

‘Love me’ or ‘Hate me’

‘’I’ve been working for Wright Care at Home for over 8 months now and what a journey it has been so far! Since day one I have not stopped learning and developing my knowledge of the care industry and customer service and continue to do so with regular training. It is safe to say – you can never learn to much!

I started the care co-coordinator role, I’ll admit, with little knowledge of what it meant to be a care coordinator. But I was lucky enough that Sammy believed in me and gave me the opportunity to shine. I have now finally found a job that I am truly happy in, I wake up every morning looking forward to going to work and dealing with the challenges sent my way. My role as a care co-ordinator is to complete, send out and reactively change customers schedules and care workers rosters. As well as ensuring continuity throughout our care and that all our hard-working carers get some days off.

Someone told me that going into this role I had to be head strong because I will either be ‘loved’ or ‘hated’. It’s difficult making everyone happy and of course my first thought is always our customers. Our carers work so hard at wright care and if we ever have an emergency they all help each other out, as a team we really do all support each other. But, I’m defiantly not always their best friend! I think sometimes they dread receiving calls and emails from me because they usually know it’ll be another roster change or I’ll be asking them to work extra shifts. (I am sorry guys! Thank you for saying yes 😊)

My day usually starts out fairly busy, I open up my laptop to a wad of emails from carers and office staff, this means my trusty notebook comes out and I jot down a big list of all my bits and bobs to do for the day. Usually overnight there is some reactive change to rosters and schedules. This is always top of my list to ensure our customers get the visits they need and carers get their rosters…again, in good timing.  Then we get the kettle on and the biscuits out, this is never a good idea as there all usually gone by lunch time and for some reason I always get the blame he he. Then it’s time for the sandwich run and Sammy never makes this easy, not just a ham and cheese sandwich. no, a chicken mayo baguette, with lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and onion, oh and some off those crisp that she likes and maybe a can of coke (which means a can of coke) just a shame they’ve stopped cream eggs again … thank god lunch buns is only a two second walk. I wouldn’t remember if it was any further! And If we’re lucky, Sarah will pop in with Baby Ralphie, he is just the cutest ❤

It’s always go in the office, carers are popping in and out, Margie’s up and about filing the paperwork and off posting schedules and Sammy’s typing away at her computer. I like our busy office though, the fact that carers are free to come in and have a chat with us and that as a team were all friendly with each other. This is what makes us different to a lot of the other care organisations out there, were a close nit team. Of course, we all have our moments, what group of women put together to work wouldn’t? But we get these nipped in the bud and overall were a happy and very caring team.

By the end of the day the rosters are out, the schedules posted and Sammy’s still typing away at her computer with files and paperwork galore. I shut down my computer and the office is quiet. The phone has stopped ringing and for a minute it’s so nice to be able to sit back and look at the differences we can make as an organisation. Whether that’s putting a smile on customers face and being a friend for them to talk to or making a customer a lovely hot meal that they’ve looked forward to all day. Whether were in the office or out in the field we all contribute to making sure we deliver the best care we possibly can.

And as I finish for the day and pack away my things I would like to say

Thank You to Sammy for giving me such an awesome opportunity

To Margie for always being there no matter what

To all the carers for saying yes, even though you really don’t want to and being so amazing at your jobs

And finally, to all our customers – For trusting and believing in Wright Care at Home.”
